Duhok International Film Festival (IFF) kicked off at Duhok University’s Congress Hall Wednesday in the presence of a large audience.
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Nechirvan Barzani opened the event that was followed by screening the Kurdish feature film Memories on Stone by Shawkat Ameen Kurdi.
Attended by a score of foreign consul generals, Kurdish MPs, and officials from Duhok province, PM Barzani, in his opening speech, hailed the Kurdish cinema and said that KRG had always supported arts in the region.
“Cinema is the most effective kind of arts … It reflects the reality of nations,” he said.
He also thanked the consuls for their presence as well as the people of Duhok for their hospitality and patience during the current refugee crisis across the province.
Before the kickoff of his movie, Korki said he was happy to have the premiere of his movie screened in Duhok, while the movie’s producer Mehmet Aktash described the event as a “success for the Kurdish cinema.”
Following the screening of the movie, the Jury, actors, directors, and other artists were interviewed by a number of media agencies that covered the event from the beginning.
